Northwoods Catholic School

Northwoods Catholic School
Spring, Texas

Phase 1 of the Northwoods Catholic School campus features the elementary school on the ground floor and the administration offices on the second floor. This building is designed to ultimately provide four classrooms each for pre-kindergarten through third grade plus specialist classrooms. However, as the first building for the school, it temporarily houses two classrooms per grade for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade until the remaining buildings can be finished. The design features two large protected courtyards/playgrounds surrounded by single-loaded corridors and classrooms. The large, arched, glazed openings surrounding the courtyard allow enough light into the corridors that electric lights are not necessary on a sunny day. All classrooms receive direct sunlight on one side and borrowed sunlight from the corridor side. The large central space between the courtyards serves as an interior performance and gathering space.
