San Antonio, Texas
Integral to the grand vision of The Alameda, Museo Americano seeks to anchor the national hub of Latino arts and culture in San Antonio, Texas. The complete renovation of 22,000 SF and the addition of 8,500 SF was needed to transform a typical 1920s stucco building into a state-of-the-art museum facility. This museum will provide an opportunity to develop a cultural consortium with other institutions such as the University of Texas at San Antonio. Two flexible lecture halls and workspaces at the Museo will allow The Alameda to work with the university in developing a graduate degree program in museum studies. The museum houses borrowed objects from its affiliate, the prestigious Smithsonian Institution, and will engage the interest of local residents, national visitors and nearby museum studies students.
