Las Vegas, Nevada
The Animal Foundation is one of the highest volume single-site shelter in America, with approximately 50,000 animals handled each year. Over 200 animals are admitted per day in the summer months on their 8-acre campus in the heart of Las Vegas. This facility has the animal control contract with the City of Las Vegas, the City of North Las Vegas, and all of Clark County. Their veterinary clinic provides high-volume veterinary care for shelter animals as well as low-cost spay neuter services for the public. Jackson & Ryan Architects were selected by The Animal Foundation as the animal welfare design specialist for the new adoption center and the renovation of the existing stray/quarantine holding and veterinary hospital.
The new Engelstad Foundation Adoption Center houses adoptions, an Education Center, administration, and support services. A unique showcase of cats and small animals highlights personalities and encourages opportunities for public interaction while providing options for privacy. Real life rooms create calm home-like spaces that encourage adoption of longer stay dogs. The clinic renovations improve efficiencies and work flows in a high-volume environment, featuring upgraded exam rooms, surgery preparation, and surgery suites. Renovations of the existing shelter improve housing for both dogs and cats for stray, quarantine, and isolation holding. All animal housing focuses on reducing stress, with double sided habitats, access to stimuli, and natural light.
